Kiawah Island is a popular beach and golf destination so we recommend that you book accommodations early. Below you will find information regarding the island, where to stay and how to get around, and we encourage you to read through all of it thoroughly since Kiawah is such a unique location. Charleston International Airport (CHS) is the closest airport and where you will want to book your flight. Kiawah Island is a 45 minute to 1 hour drive from the airport. Uber and Lyft services are able to get on the island, but Uber and Lyft services are not available once on Kiawah Island.

Getting Around

Rideshare:Ubers and Lyfts are not available on the Island so we do not recommend relying on this as a transportation option. Car Rental:Car rentals are available at the Charleston airport. We recommend this option for flexibility or if you are not staying at a Kiawah Island Golf Resort accommodation with access to the on island shuttle. Sharing transportation with friends or family is a great option. There are a number of rental options available at the airport including Alamo, Avis, Budget, Dollar, Enterprise, Hertz, National, and Thrifty. Rental Car information can be found at the Charleston Airport website (<a href="http://iflychs.com/" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">iflychs.com</a>). Transportation to Kiawah if not renting a car:If not renting a car, the best way to travel to and from the Charleston airport and Kiawah Island will be to book a car service in advance of your stay. Call extension 82900 and the shuttle will pick you up within 30 minutes of your call (noting pick up can take longer during busy weekend times). The shuttle only runs during specified hours. Wedding day transportation:Transportation will be provided to and from the River Course on October 25. The pickup schedule is dependent on where guests are staying so be sure to fill in your accommodations information when you complete the wedding invitation reply card and check back here closer to the wedding date for the full schedule! Return trips will be provided throughout the evening as needed, with final departure at the conclusion of the reception.

Accommodations

Kiawah Island Golf Resort Villa + Home Rentals800-654-2924Booking hotel rooms, villas, and houses through the Kiawah Island Golf Resort come with great perks including complimentary shuttle service to resort venues around the island, access to resort pools, discounts and preferred reservations for golf and tennis, and preferred dining and spa reservations. If availability is low or these perks are not important to you, there are many other housing options through other rental websites. The Kiawah Island Golf Resort offers a wide range of rental opportunities for villas (one to three bedroom) or homes (up to eight bedrooms). Please mention the Cowie/Hoover Wedding or booking number 22323 for 10% off your room either on the phone or in the comments section of the online booking page. The discount will be factored in once confirmed by the resort team. We believe the most affordable and fun housing option is to share a villa or home with a group. We recommend booking on the east/northeast side of the island off Governor’s drive or heart Turtle Point, as this area is central to the wedding activities, golf courses, and beach access. Hotels

The Sanctuary is an oceanfront luxury 5-star resort centrally located on the island. The hotel is part of the Kiawah Island Resort and provides access to the amenities listed above. Rooms are $600+/night. Staying in the hotel will likely be pricier than renting a villa or home. Currently, it is best to call the hotel directly to book.

The Sanctuary at Kiawah Island Golf Resort

The Andell Inn is not far from Kiawah Island. Located just outside the gate of Kiawah, in Freshfields Village, it is surrounded by a number of great restaurants and shops. The hotel is a Marriott property and includes a pool and fitness area. Please note that guests staying here will have not have access to the island, its amenities or its beaches other than for wedding events.

Kiawah is a beautiful island that holds a very special place in both of our hearts. We love the abounding nature of the island's marshland and beaches. In addition to the birds, fish, and other island wildlife, Kiawah has world class golf and great facilities to enjoy the outdoors. We think Kiawah has a little something for everyone and are so excited to share one of our favorite places with you!

Island Activities

Kiawah is a nature reserve home to a number of incredible bird species in addition to being a migratory destination. We love to walk the beaches and marshes to see the egrets, pelicans, herons, piping plovers, and other birds that grace the skies. Be mindful of the marshes, as hundreds of alligators also call Kiawah home. One of the best ways to enjoy the Kiawah River is taking a kayak through the marshes. We recommend kayaking at both high tide and low tide to see how the island transforms every day! We also love fishing through an arranged fishing charter or boat excursion for longer trips on the Kiawah River and coastal waterways. The Resort has a full list of activities available for guests on the island. Look at the Daily Activities section of the Resort website for specific offerings, but be sure to plan ahead and make reservations as activities book up quickly.

Golf Courses

Kiawah is home to many amazing golf courses. We suggest getting in a round if you have time. It’s important to reserve tee times in advance as they book quickly. Kiawah Beach

Kiawah's beach is incredible and has a number of public access points across the island. If you want to reserve chairs or umbrellas for a day, you can contact Island Services and they will set them up at the nearest beach access point to your villa with your name on them. When you’re are done you can just leave them and they’ll collect them at the end of the day.

Bike Rides

Kiawah is an amazing place to bike and is one of the best ways to get around the island as parking can be limited near beach access points. Kiawah offers bike paths around the island and biking on the beach is a great way to do some sightseeing. Below are a few rental options to rent in advance of your stay. If you are staying at the Sanctuary, bikes will be made available to you through the hotel. If you are renting a home or villa, rental bikes can be delivered to your location from the Kiawah Resort (<a href="http://kiawahresort.com/recreation/bike-rentals/" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">kiawahresort.com/recreation/bike-rentals/</a>), Island Bike and Surf Shop (<a href="http://islandbikeandsurf.com/" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">islandbikeandsurf.com</a>), or Seacoast Sports (<a href="http://seacoastsports.com/" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">seacoastsports.com</a>).

Dining

Home and villa rentals on the island typically have fully equipped kitchens and we highly recommend guests stock some groceries at Freshfields Village to make dining more flexible during your stay. There are great restaurants all throughout Kiawah Island. Each golf clubhouse on the island offers different dining options including Modern American, Italian, and Barbeque. A notable destination is the Ryder Cup Bar at the Ocean Course clubhouse. This is a great place to grab a drink or light snack and soak in the gorgeous views on the veranda or back green, particularly if you enjoy watching the sunset from the 19th hole. Freshfields Village, which is just outside the front gate, has great coffee, lunch, and dinner options. Johns Island also has great dining options for a slightly further drive. Our favorites are Low Tide Brewing, The Royal Tern, Wild Olive, and Lost Isle. The Nest Market on Kiawah offers coffee, food, and upscale convenience store items.

Freshfields Village

Freshfields has all the necessities you may need while staying on the island including restaurants, a wine bar, grocery store, wine &amp; liquor stores, nail salon, and some great shops.
